As said, the Anatolian bath culture is the first to Februa bringing Turkish bath textile Peshtemal – also known as “Turkish towel,” a new lifestyle for the beach, home, bath, sports and outdoor pleasures.
In Turkish “Peşt” means belly part “mal” means cloth which adds to cloth cover for body parts. Luxuriously soft, light, breathable and highly absorbent Turkish towels come with different size, shape, and colors for various purposes. Most common uses are for bath and beach occasions. Large-sized traditional bath and beach Turkish towels are called Peshtemals (peştamal), and small-sized head and hand towels are peshkirs (peşkir).
What is the story?
Turkish Towels “Peshtemal and Peshkir” come from the city of Denizli, Turkey founded by Romans in 2nd century B.C. During the Roman empire, Denizli believed to be a riverside city which is currently not the situation -Denizli means a place by the sea- but this geographic advantage helped to build ancient cities in the area such as the “Holy City” Hierapolis, the “Thermal Bath” Pamukkale, the “Ancient Port” Laodicea, and the “Trade City” Tripolis. Tripolis is located in the district of Buldan where Peshtemals and peshkirs are weaved and traded for over hundred years. Soil and water are so rich in the area where cotton farms are watered by a high level of Calcium Hydro-Carbon Carbonated water (builds up the Pamukkale) that helps to make strong thread yarns. And, locals know the Ottoman weaving style which brings even stronger Turkish towels with those thread yarns. So, starting with water and followed by soil, 100% Turkish cotton (Non-GDO) and weaving are essential sources for locals. During the years, the fabric has evolved, and nature called Buldaners to weave bamboo yarns also that comes from Pakistan. Besides bamboo, the touch of Turkish linen and silk are also used to make softer, and artisan made designs with responsibly sourced goods.
